On Fostering…

Think seriously about doing this, it is so rewarding on mnay levels

The Imperfect Dog

I am a huge advocate of fostering for several reasons:

  • The obvious: You are actively and literally saving an animal’s life
  • You can gain experience in lots of different training and behavior scenarios
  • You’re giving back to the community and putting things in perspective
  • If you’re looking for an animal to adopt, you can foster until you find the one that fits into your home perfectly
  • It’s rewarding and fulfilling on it’s own and it can make you feel good about yourself
  • You meet and make friendships with other local animal lovers.
  • You get to meet a lot of different animals that are complete sweethearts.

The list goes on, but I’m sure you get the idea.

People frequently say that they could never foster–honestly, fostering is a personal choice and it’s not always easy. But most of the time it’s not that they can’t, it’s that they won’t–or they don’t…

Animal rescue – How you can help

Animal rescue dogs love to cuddle

As you all know I was abandoned by my mother. Right after I was born I was sent to an animal rescue center. It was a very scary place because I got bullied quite a lot by the other dogs. But even though I was a bit scared, I was very happy that the lovely lady who raised me took me in. Otherwise I could have ended up on the street! Other than me, most of the dogs who lived at the animal rescue came in when they were already adults. Sadly there are a lot of people who discover that, once their lovely puppy turns into a full gown dog, it takes a lot more time and effort to properly take care of the animal. The end result being they throw them out of the house! The lady who raised me took care of those dogs and other animals who for whatever reason end up without a home. However it is not easy to take care of the many animals they come in, and shelters often have limited resources. Therefore they can always use the help of volunteers for cleaning out the pens or giving the animals some extra attention. If you do not have any free time available or do not live near a rescue centre, consider making a donation to your local shelter, you can find your nearest one on this great website with information about animal rescue. I find there is nothing more rewarding than helping out those in need.
